The design of the log periodic dipole array antenna as shown in figure 1 is somewhat of an empirically successful design. Log periodic antennas perform well because embassies and other similar users will need to operate over a wide selection of frequencies in the hf bands, and it is often only feasible to have one antenna. The extra spacers are used between the support booms to improve mechanical durability of antenna.

In the whole band the measured antenna gain exceeds the target value of 8.7 dbi and vswr is below the desired limit of 1.5.
